As a new year approaches tomorrow and the final hours of 2017 wind down, we all make promises to ourself that we can never seem to keep. We tell ourselves that this will be our year, we will get in shape, eat healthy, get good grades, spend less money, etc. And while yes, those are all good things to take into account... We must also be realistic with our resolutions. 2017 was a stellar but also challenging year for me. A few things I would change, but all in all I lived a great year. I'm excited to see where the next 12 months take me. So for 2018 these are the 8 things I'm going to work on this year.
1. Work on bettering myself: Throughout 2017, I took a lot of time to be reflective and I don’t want to lose that in 2018. I started this blog and I plan on continuing this. As I grow older each year, it’s important to not forget what got me there and who got me there. 2. Grow closer to the Lord: My relationship with Christ has been quiet the journey. I have been a devout Catholic my whole life, but I didn’t know what having an authentic relationship with Christ was until I truly reached rock bottom. I didn’t experience God’s love and presence until the tail end of high school in the midst of facing some of life's hardest battles to cross my way. I got to know him better in 2017 and learned to trust the process, but I want more. I plan on setting time each day to dive into his words and that is very important to me.
3. Watch more movies: I realized over Christmas that I couldn't remember the last time I went to the movie theater. We went per usual for Christmas Day and I remembered how much I LOVE seeing movies. Especially in the theaters. It's a great break from reality and helps to take your mind off whatever you may be worrying about. I need this. And I think I'll need more of that in 2018. 4. Get back in the shape I was in this Summer: I'm not doing this whole "new year, new me." This is my life and I want to be happy with myself on the inside and outside. This summer I was beyond happy with my appearance for the first time in a long time. I want that feeling back. I'm not trying to lose 30 pounds, I'm just trying to tone myself back to my happy place. I still deserve that ice cream cone. 5. Be confident and enjoy the small things in life: Life is so much better when you take the time to enjoy and appreciate the simple things in life, like the smell of coffee or just the world's natural beauty. 2018 is bound to bring so many great things, its important to take the time to appreciate them, big or small. 6. Spend more time with the people that matter: There is just too little time in this life for us to waste it on insincere, duplicitous and toxic people. We should focus on the people who we care about deeply and who care about us, as this is the best way to stay happy. And if that means a little more "me" time, then by goodness gracious take it! 7. Take care of my hair and skin: I have to see it everyday don't I? Go to bed early, take that shower even though it means the effort of getting out of bed, try to use less heat. You just have the one head of hair. 8. Not be so hard on myself: No one is perfect and it is okay to mess up sometimes! I know one thing; I am really bad about it getting down on myself whenever I mess up or do not do as well as I hoped. It is important to keep in mind that, regardless of what happens, life will go on.
So cheers to a new year but the same me. It's gonna be sweet my dudes.
